A few months back, I got a call from my buddy Mike, letting me know about his plans to propose to his girlfriend Karla. He wanted to bring me down to South Florida to document it for him at Wellington High School in the classroom where they first met. I was very excited about being able to capture such an intimate and important moment of someones lives so of course, I accepted! April 4th came around and I traveled down to take part in this amazing day! Mike, some of their friends, and I, arrived early to set up the classroom to be ready for Karla to walk in, and the plan was that she was coming to the High School to see a play that her cousin was starring as the lead role in (just to be clear, there was really no play!). Her cousin called and asked that Mike and Karla pick up something that she needed in her spanish class, and when they walked in to retrieve the item Karla was surprised and completely in shock to find a room decorated out just for her, along with some random photographer (that would be me) snapping photos of her. After Karla got her bearings and realized what was happening, Mike got down on a knee, confessed his un-wavering love and affection for her, and asked her to be his wife. Guess what boys and girls, SHE SAID YES! I have to say, there was a good minute or so of silence before she spoke that scared the living daylights out of me, but after her questioning if this was real and stating “I can’t believe it!” the only word out of her mouth was a beautiful, resounding, YES!
Mike also had taken the time to surprise Karla by inviting all of her family and friends (they had been hiding quietly in the classroom next door) and when they came in the room the entire building was alive with excitement and happiness. I had a short portrait session with Mike and Karla after the proposal and then the entire team headed down to City Place in Downtown West Palm Beach, FL to party at Tequila Cowboys. Mike and Karla even braved the bull at the end of the night, and it was definitely a sight to be seen! The night seemed to go by very quickly, but thankfully Mike and Karla will have these photos to cherish forever!
